“You Call Me Moody?”

An essay by Angela, one of my students, grade 6, another of many lights

I know you’ll say I don’t, but I feel like I hate my parents

They claim I’m moody, they accuse me of it

I call them hypocrites

I don’t think either really knows what that is, so they yell at me.

So here goes, pls tell me what you think:

“Adults”

If you don’t have your coffee you’re grumpy

If there’s no hot water you shout

If something isn’t right with the car you curse

You need beer at night to chill you out

You and mom are only happy when you both come home drunk

Mom loves wine more than talking to you

It doesn’t yell at her

Til the morning

Then she needs coffee or gets mean.

And you need:

Your shows

Your phone

Your songs

Your sleep

Your quiet

Your captive audience to complain to

The more unhappy you get

The more I get lectured

I say you’re just depressed

My jaw gets fractured.
